What is a Hate Crime and Homophobic Crime? If someone commits a crime against you or your property because of your age, colour, sexual identity, race, national origin, religion, sex or disability, this is called a hate crime. Incidents can include verbal threats or abuse, arson, robbery or violence towards you and damage to your property.
Being a victim can be a particularly frightening experience as you have been victimised because of who you are, or who/what your attacker thinks you are. Hate crime can take place anywhere - at home, in the streets, and at work, schools and colleges.
Reports of Hate and Homophobic Crime can be made:
Met Policehave trained staff on hand to enable victims to report crime without having to speak directly to a police officer or visit a police station.
NOTE: in an emergency, always call 999.
Third party anonymous reporting through Positive East. We offer an anonymous third party reporting agency, and provide support and advocacy on behalf of victims.
