Kaleidoscope
Positive East has started a group for black gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men, regardless of HIV status.
The group called Kaleidoscope will meet on Tuesdays, once a month and is aimed at Black men of Caribbean and or African heritage.
Sessions include discussions, social events, workshops and film nights. It aims to provide educational/information based meetings and social events with a strong emphasis on the community element in a fun, relaxed, informal way.
The group meets at Positive East Stepney Centre from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.
For more information call the Gay Men’s team at Positive East on 020 7791 2855, or email kaleidoscope@positiveast.org.uk

Kaleidoscope facilitator: Dennis Carney moved to London from Manchester in 1982 to come out as a Black gay man. In the mid 80’s Dennis was elected Chair of the Black Lesbian & Gay Centre Project (BLGC) and established the UK’s first Black gay men’s discussion group, Let’s Rap in the early 90’s. He was one of the official spokespersons for the hugely successful ‘Stop Murder Music Campaign’ and has appeared in several radio shows and TV documentaries that examine homophobia and race including, ‘Reggae, Trainers & the Olympics’ and ‘Batty Man’.
For the last 8 years Dennis has facilitated workshops specifically aimed at Black Gay & Bisexual men at PACE and co-facilitates the well established and popular monthly group Black Connection. In 2003 and 2007 he received Black LGBT Community Awards in recognition of his work with Black LGBT communities over the last 2 decades. Dennis feels excited about joining Kaleidoscope in March 2009 and is keen to continue the hard work that has helped make the group the success story it already is.
